outreach services

Library Materials delivered to you! It couldn't be any easier. Homebound service is for Berwyn residents with temporary or permanent disabilities that prevent them from using library facilities. Some have received books temporarily while restricted during a pregnancy or for a short recovery period after surgery.

Highlights of the service include:

  • Free, twice-a-month delivery and pick up to the home,
  • Delivery will be on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.,
  • Delivery made by library staff,
  • Personally selected books, magazines, recorded books, or music on cassette or CD, and
  • Four week check-out period.

There is no age restriction; those interested need only contact the library's Outreach Services Department, 708-795-8000, ext. 3020. Keep in mind that this service is limited to Berwyn Public Library holdings (so you can't receive materials through Inter-Library Loan) and excludes materials with multiple requests and new spoken recordings.

Those interested need only to contact the library's Outreach Coordinator, or fill out the request form available here.

Instant Collection – an extension of our Homebound Service

This is a rotating collection of books delivered to area retirement homes, nursing homes and senior centers to supplement their libraries. Contact the Outreach Coordinator for details or to sign up.

On Your Mark, Get Set, Learn Program
(Coming soon!)

Library staff have packaged thematic story times for preschool and daycare providers to share with their children. Examples of themes are: Cats, Seasons, Hibernation, Russian Stories, and Transportation. Each packet contains 3 books, flannel story, songs, and an activity idea.
